Commentary

Michael Brown was laid to rest Monday in Ferguson, Missouri, and the city appears relatively calm. It is possible, however, that it is a pseudo peace pending the outcome of the grand jury proceedings for Darren Wilson, the police officer who killed the unarmed teen.

The deceased boy’s father asked for peace prior to Brown’s funeral, and his wishes were respected. Subsequently, there have been no reports on protests or justice seekers gathering during the day or assembling at night. Is this a peaceful sleep, or are people re-energizing themselves for action should Wilson walk free? During the memorial service, a clarion call resounded . . .

Charles Vacca, a firearms instructor. was shot in the head when a gun recoiled during a tutorial with a 9-year-old girl at the Last Stop Arizona gun range, in White Hills, Arizona. Vacca was struck around 10 a.m. Monday and died at Las Vegas Hospital at 9 p.m. the same night . . .

Daniel Ken Holtzclaw, a police officer and former Eastern Michigan University football player, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of sexual assault of at least seven women between February and June 2014. All of the victims are black women . . .

According to a public court filing, the goal of the Seattle Pacific University shooter was “to kill as many as possible” before shooting himself. The killer has been identified as Aaron Rey Ybarra, 26, who was not a student and had no relationship with the victims . . .

Leo Earl Sharp, World War II veteran, from Michigan City, Ind. will be sentenced onMay 7, his 90th birthday. The crime? Allegedly transporting 1,400 pounds of cocaine across the country.

The third victim in the Kansas shootings, Terri LaManno, was remembered as a “beautiful soul” by her daughter. She was shot in the parking lot of the Village Shalom Retirement Center on Sunday en route to visiting her elderly mother, as she did every Sunday. Two sisters were visiting their mother at the time of the incident, not knowing their sibling had been gunned down . . .

No justice for Jordan Davis: Michael Dunn not convicted of murder

The verdict is in for Michael Dunn. He has not been convicted of first-degree murder for the killing of Jordan Davis, 17, an unarmed black teenager, for playing what Dunn described as “thug music” loudly. He was found guilty on four other charges, three for attempted second-degree murder and one for firing 10 shots at a sports utility vehicle with four teens inside, three bullets fatally wounding Jordan . . .

Woman sentenced to life in prison for killing police officer with his own gun

Robin Johnson, 50, was sentenced to life in prison without parole Wednesday for killing Chicago police officer, Richard Francis, with his own gun in 2008.

She maintains that she does not remember what happened the morning Francis was killed and learned of the charges as she recovered in a hospital from multiple gunshots fired by Francis’ colleagues . . .

Brain-dead pregnant Texas woman, Marlise Munoz, removed from life support

John Peter Smith Hospital, in Forth Worth, Texas, has removed a brain-dead woman, Marlise Munoz, 33, from life support Sunday per a court order. Texas District Judge R.H. Wallace Jr. informed hospital officials they had until 5 p.m. Monday to comply.

The judge stated in his order: “Mrs. Munoz is dead.” She was declared brain-dead in November, but remained on life support to keep her body functioning for the sake of the fetus…
