Strip club evacuated as 10,000 gallons of crude oil spilled onto L.A. streets

A crude oil spill in the Atwater Village neighborhood of Los Angeles, Calif., near Glendale, prompted an evacuation of the Gentlemen’s Club Thursday. Oil spewed into the sky and onto the roof, covering the windows of the business.

It was initially reported that 50,000 gallons of oil flowed after a 20-inch, above-ground, oil pipe broke, but later reports stated it was 10,000 gallons. The pipeline was turned off remotely . . .

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg Friday as special envoy for cities and climate change.

Bloomberg retired at the end of December after three terms as mayor, and the special envoy appointment is for two years . . .
