President Barack Obama will send an alert to Congress Monday requesting $2 billion in funds to stop the influx of child migrants from Central America. The amount is an estimate and a detailed letter will be sent to Congress when it returns from the Fourth of July recess on July 7.

Funding would be used for setting up detention space equipped for children and for halting them from entering the US illegally. From Oct. 1 to June 15, approximately 52,000 unaccompanied minors have entered the US along with another 39,000 children with families.
