Ruby Dee died on Wednesday in her New Rochelle, New York, home surrounded by family. She was born to Marshall Edward Nathaniel Wallace, a cook, porter and waiter and Gladys Hightower, on Oct. 27, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was later raised by her father and stepmother, Emma Amelia Benson, a teacher, after Hightower left the family. Before marrying Ossie Davis, she was married to blues singer Frankie Dee Brown, hence Ruby Dee . . .

  1. First Maya,Now Ruby too. Ruby was such a class act. The definition of a class and grace. many of today’s celebs could learn a lot from her. She carried herself with dignity and self respect. Stars like Lady Gaga,Rihanna and Nicki Minaj are not even close to the grace of Ruby Dee. She will be greatly missed. 😦
