Louisiana pastor shot dead while preaching

Pastor Ronald J. Harris, Sr. was shot dead Friday as he preached at Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center in Lake Charles. Woodrow Karey, 53, is charged with second-degree murder and bond is set at $1 million.

Kim Mayers, a spokeswoman for the Calcasieu’s Parish Sheriff’s office said had no information on whether the suspects knew each other.

CNN now reports Karey is a deacon at Tabernacle of Praise, and the shooting was motivated by undisclosed issues at the church . . .

On Friday, Malala Yousafzai, 16, a Pakistani girl who survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban, was honored with the 2013 Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award at Harvard University.

Malala was shot in the head last year, and militants said it was because she was critical of the Taliban – not her views on education — although she was shot on a school bus and was known as an education activist . . .

The wrongful death case Michael Jackson’s mother filed against AEG Live LLC concert promoters has finally gone to a jury after a five month trial. Brian Panish, the attorney who represents Katherine Jackson made a final plea Thursday for the jury to punish the entertainment company’s executives . . .
